Fulton Railroad Co., Ltd.

In the 1800s, the area was known as Fulton Township in recognition Robert Fulton, steamboat promoter. The site of the Fulton Railroad (FRR) was home to one of the busiest shipbuilding centers along the country’s interior waterways. Multiple shipyards maintained a global reputation for producing vessels of the highest level of craftsmanship and elegance. More than 900 steamboats were constructed, spawning businesses as diverse as machine tooling and department stores. The high-water port has functioned since the 1890s as a rail and barge service providing shipping of metal and lumber materials for the region’s houses, offices, appliances and automobiles.

Today, FRR operates a rail line running from Mile Zero to Mile One on the Oasis Line. It agreed to grant local and overhead trackage rights to the Indiana and Ohio Railway (IORY, a division of Genessee & Wyoming Railroad).  IORY locomotives bring empty rail cars and pick up laden rail cars.
