STEWARDSHIP

The Sawyer Place Company has been a longstanding advocate of the river and surrounding neighborhood. Historically, the Sawyer Place Company has improved the visual appearance of the East End Corridor through the purchase and improvements of derelict properties.  The company takes seriously its responsibility to manage ecological and natural environmental systems for future generations while allowing for responsible new development.

ArtWorks Mural

This beautification project is a colorful mural of fluttering banners that enhances the facade of the Sawyer Place Company headquarters on Riverside Drive. The installation came about when The Sawyer Place Company and its tenant, Boys Hope Girls Hope, collaborated to beautify the East End. It conveys two messages to passersby:

West View: This idyllic scene celebrates the area’s rich history as a center of commerce and shipbuilding throughout the 19th century.

East View: This view represents the stages of progress and development each child receives as part of the Boys Hope Girls Hope family. Portrayed are children growing up, being educated and graduating, ready to “unlock” their futures.

Environmental Stewards

Natural Riparian Riverbank: The Sawyer Place Company maintains an industrial property with about 3,000 lineal feet of Ohio River frontage. As responsible stewards of the river, The Sawyer Place Company ensures that the natural vegetation along its riverbank is largely undisturbed and performs important water quality and erosion control functions.  As a result, the habitat supports regular visits by waterfowl and other wildlife that proliferate throughout the region.

Environmental Remediation: When The Sawyer Place Company acquired the former site of Rookwood Terminals, it demolished 10 above-ground oil storage tanks and associated handling infrastructure.  It also remediated soil and followed the inspection and test requirements, all in an effort of sustainability.
